Cockroach facts

  • Cockroaches aren’t well known for their practice of good hygiene. While they may seem harmless, cockroaches are known carriers of diseases such as salmonella, dysentery and gastroenteritis. Cockroach droppings have even been linked to increases in eczema and asthma. If you think you have a cockroach infestation then you would be wise not to ignore it.
  • Cockroaches are able to climb on smooth surfaces because they have a sticky pad on their feet.
  • Cockroaches lay eggs in a capsule, called an ootheca, containing multiple eggs.
  • Eggs can take up to 1 month to hatch. 
  • Cockroach takes from six weeks to six months to reach maturity.

  • Identifying the cockroach species will help deal with an infestation more effectively.
  • Cockroaches are well known for causing electrical failure in televisions, microwaves, kettles, air conditioning units, also causing damage to food production and stored items.

  • Step 4: Preventive measures – Discussion around preventive measures shall be discussed after the initial treatment but usually consist of (but not limited to) wiping all kitchen bench tops down with 50% Vinegar and 50% Water, rubbish bins inside to be removed every night, grates to be placed over the internal sink drains, ensure seals to be maintained under door that enter the house, gardens to be maintained, grass to be maintained to an acceptable height.
